We might not have widespread use of flying cars, but there’s no doubt that technology is changing the game. It’s been a big week in the QSR industry.
Let’s jump in.
1. A high-tech drive-thru renaissance is the future of fast food
Now, after years of hyping technology and mobile ordering, the old-school ordering platform is once again in the spotlight.
On Tuesday, Chipotle announced that it plans to open 60 more locations with drive-thru “Chipotlanes” by the end of the year, in addition to the 20 that are already open.
Unlike a traditional drive-thru, Chipotlanes are exclusively used for mobile orders.
Rebecca Says: The prospect of ordering by mobile, and not having to leave your car is compelling. The technology required to do this is already available, so it’s not going to be a huge jump. The main challenge will be educating customers that the Chipotlanes are available for them to use.Rebecca Furlong, Onboarding Manager at Mobi2Go
2. Pizza Hut is testing a new round pizza box that looks like a spaceship
Pizza Hut has a futuristic new round pizza box that looks like a spaceship.
Partnering with food startup Zume, Pizza Hut is testing the new round box at a Phoenix location for one day only on Wednesday, the chain announced Tuesday.
Mark Says: Compostable? I didn’t even know that was a word?! The sustainability aspect of these pizza boxes is awesome. Every small change adds up.Mark Eaton, Customer Support Manager at Mobi2Go
3. Boost Juice has just had the plug pulled on its ASX float
Retail Zoo, the parent company of Boost Juice, has had its plans to launch on the Australia Securities Exchange (ASX) suspended indefinitely. The decision was believed to have been taken on Tuesday night by investment firm and part-owner Bain Capital.
Cleo says: Time will tell, but I suspect Retail Zoo have a few cards they’re yet to play. They would have looked at every possible scenario before deciding this was their best long term option. We’re only getting a small part of the story.Cleo Iggy, Customer Engagement Specialist at Mobi2Go
